The motto of Lions International is "We Serve." As one of the oldest clubs in the nation, this is certainly true of the Downtown Lions Club established in 1918.

In keeping with the charitable needs of the city, the club established the Lions Foundation of Minneapolis in 1966. From an endowment fund of over $200,000 each year the Foundation Board allocates approximatly $20,000 to such worthy charities as Lions Eye Bank, Lions Children's Eye Bank, Lions Hearing Foundation, Lions Diabetes Foundation, Vision Loss Resources, Opportunity Partners, Emma Norton Residence, Boy Scouts, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Sharing and Caring Hands, Aeon, North Minneapolis Meals on Wheels and Step.

The Lions Club of Minneapolis, which includes men and women, meets every Wednesday at noon (except on holidays) in one of the banquet rooms at the Golden Valley Country Club.

Lions are service oriented and they are also a group of active, fun-loving people. As an older club we do have several members who are retired, and a few of them are Snowbirds, but it should be said that the club is ACTIVE, and it plans to remain that way!

Members of the Lions Club of Minneapolis feel that active service organization are critical to keep the Twin Cities and surrounding metro area a vital, vibrant metropolitan center. We are proud of our heritage and our contribution thus far, and we are hopeful that our future will be as  productive and exciting as our past. People who work in the Twin Cities , or have an interest in the Twin Cities Metro Area, and who enjoy the service and social aspects of an organization like ours, are welcome to join our club.
